Britain Your Way

Selecting accommodations in Britain is sure to be one of the most interesting aspects of planning your trip‹and maybe a bit challenging, too, because the selections are endless! You might sleep in a castle, a haunted house or at a cozy inn. Or perhaps you prefer a charming B&B in the countryside. Then again, you could opt for an elegant town house, a modern hotel or rent an apartment. Whatever you decide, you'll find comfort, convenience and warm hospitality.

A hotel stay in Britain can mean so many things...historic houses, large modern hotels, motels, motor lodges, small family-run hotels.in cities, towns, villages or nestled in the countryside.

Even in the major cities, you can choose from grand luxury hotels to small elegant town house hotels, as well as all the more familiar international hotel groups. From traditional to modern, luxury to budget conscious, you can rest assured that all offer a high standard of service and comfort. Many also offer a wide range of additional facilities: health spas, swimming pools, tennis, horseback riding, golf, babysitting, and much more.

Bed & Breakfast accommodation, or *B&B* as it is affectionately known, is a uniquely British experience. It offers excellent value for money and a real insight into the British way of life.

You could stay with a family in a private home or guest house, which can be in a pretty village, in the center of a town, beside the sea, or on a farm in the heart of the countryside. It may even be a luxury mansion on its own grounds, or possibly a very small hotel. B&Bs are as varied as the people who live in them.

How do I find them?
How much does it cost?

Looking for something a little out of the ordinary (and sometimes other-worldly!)? Britain's castles and haunted hotels & inns are the perfect way to relive history, pretend you're royalty for the night, or encounter mysteries of the unknown!

Inns and pubs have been a way of life in Britain for centuries. They are a great place to meet people, exchange stories, discover local sites to visit or just relax for the evening.

If you're a traveler who follows the wind (or the water!), hostels, caravanning (camping), or canal boats are great options for you. There's a vast network of hostels and campgrounds throughout Britain providing inexpensive accommodations, usually bookable at a moment's notice, and canal boats offer relaxing cruises along Britain's inland waterways.

Staying in self-catering cottages, apartments, private homes or country estates is a great way to explore a new area in depth, extend your stay to visit friends or relatives or perhaps for business or college. It's the perfect *home away from home* and is often less expensive than staying in a hotel.

The selection ranges from charming cottages to log cabins to country houses...out in the countryside, at the seaside or on a farm. You may even stay in a converted windmill or lighthouse. Staying in town? There are plenty of apartments, deluxe or more basic, in London and many other cities throughout Britain.

Another fun option is a home exchange...why not swap houses with a British family for a really unique vacation experience.
